Vài nét về kỹ năng đọc hiểu Vận dụng kiến thức nền - Activating Prior Knowledge

“Dạy trẻ chiến lược tư duy nào được những người đọc hiểu hiệu quả sử dụng, đồng thời giúp trẻ sử dụng những chiến lược đó một cách độc lập, chính là bản chất của việc dạy đọc” - theo Keene và Zimmerman. Vận dụng kiến thức nền, theo Keene và Zimmerman, là chiến lược số 1 trong số 7 chiến lược có vai trò chủ chốt làm nên thành công khi đọc hiểu.

Kiến thức nền chính là những điều mà trẻ thâu nhận được từ trước đó, trong đó gồm những trải nghiệm trong đời sống thực của trẻ. Khi trẻ tạo được liên kết giữa văn bản đang đọc với kiến thức nền của mình, mức độ thấu hiểu văn bản của trẻ sẽ tăng lên.

Raz Kids mở rộng/Raz Plus dạy trẻ kỹ năng Vận dụng kiến thức nền như thế nào?

Với thư viện sách Raz Kids mở rộng/Raz Plus, sau khi nghe và đọc-thu âm với sách, trẻ sẽ làm quiz - trả lời câu hỏi đọc hiểu. Bộ câu hỏi này đã được đội ngũ chuyên gia giáo dục thiết kế một cách vô cùng khoa học, theo chuẩn CCSS (Common Core State Standards). Đây là tiêu chuẩn chung của Mỹ nêu rõ trẻ em dưới 18 tuổi cần đạt tới những năng lực nào về Toán và tiếng Anh (bao gồm môn tiếng Anh và khả năng đọc thông viết thạo các kiến thức khoa học tự nhiên, khoa học xã hội + công nghệ kỹ thuật).

Với một số sách, khi làm quiz, trẻ có thể cần vận dụng kiến thức nền của mình kết hợp với thông tin trong sách để lựa chọn đáp án đúng. Ví dụ câu hỏi trong cuốn sách Learning about the Past - level C - dưới đây "Thứ gì có thể giúp bạn tìm hiểu về quá khứ?". Bằng cách liên hệ với những gì mình đã biết, trẻ có thể lập tức chọn ngay đáp án A - đọc những cuốn sách cũ (reading old books) chứ không phải may quần áo mới (making new clothes) hay chụp thật nhiều ảnh (taking many photos).

Ngoài ra, để rèn luyện kỹ năng Vận dụng kiến thức nền cho trẻ, cha mẹ có thể cùng đọc sách Raz Kids với con, đặc biệt là những cuốn chủ đề quen thuộc như tìm hiểu bộ phận xe ô tô; các hoạt động cùng làm với ông/bà/bố/mẹ; các kỳ nghỉ lễ... Hãy cùng con xem cuốn sách đề cập tới những đồ vật/sự kiện gì; chúng có giống như trải nghiệm thực tế ngoài đời của con không; có điểm gì độc đáo ở đó...
